About us

Vimetco NV is an international industrial and investment group that focuses on the aluminium industry. Our corporate investment centre is situated in The Netherlands and our management and services centre, in Switzerland.

The Group is present in several countries, including The Netherlands, Switzerland, China, Guinea and Romania. In 2007, it had an average work force of 9,700 employees and pro-forma revenues of USD 1,565 million.

The majority of the Group’s industrial output is sold on international markets, including the London Metal Exchange (LME) as well as the Shanghai Metal Market (SMM).

Summary

Vimetco NV’s operating companies in the aluminium sector are located in Romania and China and produce:
  • alumina
  • primary aluminium and
  • processed aluminium
The Group’s Romanian operations developed from a number of privatisations of state-owned Romanian companies. These operations:
  • include the largest aluminium production facility in Central and Eastern Europe, excluding the CIS, measured by primary aluminium production
  • are located in a European Union member state with proximity to Western European customers which rely on imported aluminium
In 2006 and 2007 Vimetco NV acquired aluminium production assets as well as power in China, the largest and fastest growing aluminium market in the world. These operations provide the Group with:
  • access to the country with the fast growing demand for aluminium
  • advanced technology
